Programme overview

The demand for competent and creative business leaders and managers with skills to take business practice to the next level in the African context and beyond  is undisputed today.

This is exacerbated by the dearth of requisite skills given the situation and realities on the ground exhibited in most training institutions.

Transforming existing business practices will not happen overnight but is possible when sufficient numbers of business professionals adhere to best business practices.

African business practices 3.0 will not only make business practices more efficient in terms of human and financial resources, but will also have a knock-on effect in terms of the region’s social and economic development.

The programme builds on existing skills to ensure that resulting practices are taken to the next level.

All courses in the programme are built to ensure that local realities are taken into account while at the same time looking to international best practices to bring business realities and practices in the region into line with international standards and practices.

The overall aim of the programme is to develop a cadre of dynamic, creative, and highly-trained business professionals who have the knowledge and skills necessary to bring about change in existing business practices in the East Africa region.

Entry requirements
To be eligible to join the programme, you should have completed a Bachelors degree with an honours class (at least 2nd Class Lower). 

You will also be required to pass our online Graduate Admission Test. 

The course is also open to recent graduates with Bachelors degree intending to pursue academic careers to PhD in future.

Programme structure (Executive MBA)

The programme consists of 10 courses offered on a modular basis over a 20-month period followed by six months to finalise the dissertation or research paper. Each course runs for eight weeks.

Given the nature of today‚Äôs world, all organizations need to keep up with the changing times in order to remain literally in business. Successfully managing the process of strategic planning and implementation will grow a better and more successful organization. Strategic Management focuses on all the issues that relate to the process of strategy formation in organizations: the planning and implementation of strategy, strategic change/transformation and ‚Äúturn-around processes‚ÄĚ, the improvement of an organization‚Äôs strategic competences at various levels inside the organization, and on characteristics of organizations that manage to be successful and survive over long periods of time.

Nowadays organisations, public or private, large or small, local or international are intricate entities that require constant attention and care. This course will lead you through several stages aimed at better understanding of organisations and the functioning of the people within them. 

International Business (IB) is concerned with the issues facing international companies and governments in dealing with all types of cross-border transactions. This course will lay considerable emphasis on understanding the global dynamics of our world, including an understanding of the contexts of global business. Thinking globally ‚ÄĒ and understanding how to bring different cultures together.¬†

How programme is delivered

Courses are delivered via the Moodle e-learning platform, which is user-friendly and does not require extensive computer knowledge. Content is uploaded for the student to read at his/her pace. 

Common spaces are provided for students to interact amongst themselves or do group work under the supervision of the tutors. Lectures are conducted online using the user-friendly Zoom software used internationally by other great universities. 

Our free online library gives access to close to 50 million resources in over 300 publisher databases.

Meet your head of programme

Dr Anthony Tibaingana

Dr. Anthony was born and brought up in Kampala, Uganda. He followed his ancestral to become a teacher. He is a renowned universities academic. Having worked as a teacher/ lecturer in business schools in Uganda. Anthony developed an early interest in business education and started as a personal tutor at the department of distance education Makerere University in 2004.

During his masters training, he was a teaching assistant in marketing and became heavily involved in educational development across various years of the master course.

From 2008, Anthony completed both his MBA. From 2011, Anthony became a Head of Department of Marketing and Management until April 2017.

Anthony completed his PhD in Business Administration at the University of Pretoria.

In 2018 he took up a Programme Leader post at VUU.  Anthony has a wealth of experience in business and management and also works as a private consultant in business, marketing and management.
