VUU’s core mission is to provide high-quality education to students in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. To achieve this tall order, we are focused on building institutional capacity and are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and a senior consultant on Strategy and Development.
Prof Magnus Amajirionwu joined VUU as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs from the Environmental Protection Agency, Ireland. Prof Amajirionwu has over 30 years of experience working in various roles as an environmental regulator, EHS consultant, energy & environmental projects manager, lecturer and researcher. He is a Chartered Environmentalist (Soc.Env, UK), Chartered Waste Manager (CIWM, UK) and Professor of Environment and Sustainable Development with extensive international experience in academia, public and private sectors of Africa and Europe. His areas of expertise include permitting and enforcement under the European Union Industrial Emissions Directive and the Waste Framework Directive of activities in such sectors as pharmaceuticals, cement manufacture, mining, oil and gas, and waste management.
“The online learning is a game changer for our sector and I am excited to be joining the VUU Senior Leadership Team as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs. My aim is to attract the best teaching talent to the different Schools in the University to deliver world-class education, “said Prof Magnus.
Prof Arthur Sserwanga joins the VUU a senior consultant on Strategy and Development. He has over 20 years’ experience involving start-ups, business acquisitions, consultancy, business mentoring and accelerations. Prof Sserwanga has dedicated most of his professional life to the empowerment of people through active learning, particularly in the field of higher education and entrepreneurship. Heis an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at Makerere University Business School and an entrepreneur. Previously he has served as a Vice-Chancellor of Muteesa I Royal University, was a Dean of Academic Faculties at Makerere University Business School and a Head of an Academic Department at Makerere University Business School.
Prof Sserwanga has authored several journal articles, book chapters and books on entrepreneurship in Uganda focusing on entrepreneurial resources, entrepreneurship quantity and quality, entrepreneurship promotion, innovation social entrepreneurship, business shut down, culture and entrepreneurship, taxation, learning and changing mindsets. He has designed, gained funding and successfully implemented projects for youths, entrepreneurs and prisoners in Uganda. He achieves this by establishing active, innovative and collaborative research agendas, merging his business experience with his research interests.
